This and That

Winter_shoes I have a few things to share with you today.

First, Amber suggested that I do a tutorial on the little florets I made for my 'Noel' banner and several others indicated an interest in this too. I'll try to get one posted here sometime in the next week.

Second, I thought I'd share two of my recent purchases with you. I am a serious shoe person. I LOVE funky, colorful and sexy shoes. Anyways, I needed some new winter boots as my old ones were about 8 years old. So I found some awesome ones by my new favorite shoe company Privo. I bought my first pair of Privo's before we left for Europe. They are amazingly comfortable shoes and I heartily recommend them. I was excited to find out that the boots were on sale at my local shoe shop, so I ran in to try them on and left with a smile on my face and the boots in shopping bag! My second purchase is the adorable pumps pictured here made by Indigo Shoes. They look like the perfect holiday party shoes, and they were very comfy. I first saw them when I was at the shoe shop to buy my boots. They didn't have my size, so they special ordered them. I ran in this morning to try them on and was so excited because they'd been put on sale for 50% off!! Yeay! So they came home with me too!

Third, here is another one of the collages that I sold at Silver Bella. It totally made me wish that I'd grown up with a sister. I was so happy that it was bought by a set of sisters who came to the show with their mom. I hope they enjoy it.

Fourth, if you're looking for some holiday inspiration, I'd encourage you to visit my friend Rebecca who is doing an excellent series called 'Christmas from the craft room'. Great ideas there.

Finally, a little Christmas music for you. This is a dance remix of a Sarah McLachlan holiday song...it gets me in a great weekend mood. It's a bit long, but fun.

Enjoy your weekend, I'm off to work on some magazine assignments!

Noel

Noel_banner2

I'm tickled pink to see the excitement that my holiday giveaway is generating. It's fun to read all of your messages. I've had a few gals mention that they think it would be fun to do something similar on their blogs. So let's share the holiday cheer and see if we can start a little something in this online paper-crafting community of ours. If you would like to join in on the fun, all you have to do is host some sort of holiday giveaway on your blog. It can be anything from a few handmade cards, to vintage photos (hmmmm, a hint for next week's giveaway??!!), an ephemera pack...really the possibilities are endless. For those who decide to host their own giveaway, I would be happy to link to your blog, and make my little vintage girl image available to you. So just leave me a comment or email and we'll get you hooked up!

Here's a little banner project (highly inspired by the fabulous Pam Garrison) that I did for the Canadian Scrapbooker Dec/Jan issue. I look forward to getting it back from the magazine so that I can hang it up this holiday season.

In some completely unrelated news, this weekend was Rick's first days off in forever! The boy's been working like crazy and getting a ton of overtime so it was soooo nice to spend a few days together (even though he did end up running into the office for something on Sunday afternoon/evening). We had a absolute BLAST playing a new game that Rick bought for his XBOX 360, Guitar Hero 3. I've heard some of my friends talk about how much fun this game is and how they enjoy playing it with their kids, and boy oh boy, I so totally agree. Rick and I had such a blast. The only other games I play are car racing ones from time to time, so it's cool to have a game that he and I can do together. Love that man (smile!).

Spreading the holiday cheer

Winter_cheer_logo To herald in the arrival of the holiday season, I thought it would be fun to spread some Winter Cheer to my blog readers. Yes, you. Those friends and visitors who visit me on-line. I can't even tell you how much you each brighten my life and I wanted to give a little something back to you. In honor of the beginning of the season of joy, I'll be hosting several give-aways from now until Christmas...I'll be aiming for one a week, but I reserve the right to change that should my life suddenly become crazy busy (as is frequently the case during December!). At any rate, here's the deal with GIVEAWAY #1.

This prize pack is for over $70 in scrapbooking products (stamps, patterned paper, stickers, etc.) The packet will contain products from several different manufacturers and all items are brand new. In fact, many would work as stocking stuffers should you have scrapbookers on your Christmas list this year. Please leave a comment to be entered in the draw for the prize. Give away open to people living in the States or Canada as I have to pay for postage. (Thanks for your understanding)

Giveaway will close this Thursday at noon PST.

GOOD LUCK!!

This Christmas season...

With the Holiday season starting up, I wanted to take a moment to wish each of you the following...

So sorry that the photo is blurry! (Song by Michael W Smith from his new Chrsitmas Album).

Edited to add: Since my original post they have disabled embedding for this video, so to listen, please click HERE.

Have a safe weekend and be sure to check back on Monday as I will be posting a give-away!

Happy Thanksgiving and a happy girl

20_celineHappy Thanksgiving to all my American friends. I hope that you had a lovely day with family and friends. Are any of you gearing up for Black Friday sales? As I live right on the Canada/USA border, I often go across on Black Friday, but I will be sitting it out this year. There is nothing that we need badly enough to make me brave the crowds. Good luck to those of you go. Let me know what kinds of deals you get and I'll live vicariously through you.

My 'happy girl' news is that my hubby and I were able to snare tickets for the Celine Dion concert in Vancouver in October 2008....looooong way away, eh? It's one of those things were we don't know 100% if we'll be available to go, but I've always wanted to see Celine in concert, so we bit the bullet. I'm pretty happy about it! Hopefully you don't think I'm lame, I know a lot of people are not fans, but I first bought her album when I was in 9th grade, and she's always been my ideal as an amazing singer. The mastery she has over her voice and the dedication she gives to her craft have really made me a fan. So, although I have a looong wait ahead of me for the concert, the news that we got tickets has made me a happy girl.

Gotta love

a little sparkle. Even better if it's vintage sparkle. One of the fun things about going to Silver Bella is getting to visit with Kelly Jacobs, a super cute, absolutely adorable little ball of energy and kindness who is close friends with Pam Garrison. Besides being a sweetheart, Kelly designs the most awesome jewelry using vintage (and some reproduction) pieces. I had the pleasure to buy a necklace from her last year, and I always get comments/compliments when I wear it. So I saved my pennies and planned to purchase a few more from her this year. I was so excited to buy three pieces from her. In the picture, you can see two of the pieces I bought. (the one with the aqua stones on the left and the gray/brown stones on the right). I also purchased one with a pink color scheme, but it went home with Kelly so that she could add more links to it so that it's a bit longer.

Kellys_jewelry

That leaves one of the necklaces from the photo left over...the asymmetrical one in the center with the little crown. Well, I'm proud to say that I had my first foray into jewelry making on Thursday night, as after our Second Chance antique shopping Kelly taught a class for the instructors. It was such a lovely treat to take a class together. I don't necessarily think that jewelry making will be a hobby I pick up, as I never quite seemed to master the technique of wire wrapping (right, Kelly?!). I'm pretty sure that Kelly did about 99% of the wrapping for my necklace, LOL! Anyways, I was so proud of the necklace and love that I played a part in making it.

Unfortunately, Kelly doesn't have a website or etsy store yet, but we're working on her. You can bet, as soon as she does, I will post a link to it here.

Did I tell you...

Second_chance_doll_head That I scared my room mate at Silver Bella?  No? Well, let me share...

I had the privilege of rooming with fellow teacher Charlotte Lyons during the weekend. We shared some interesting conversations, and I tried to learn every nugget of wisdom I could from her. (It was fascinating to note how different our respective industries are). But one of the funniest moments was Saturday night as we were both trying to pack our bags. Between teaching supplies, antiquing treasures and gifts, it was like trying to fit an elephant into a suitcase. (in other words, very difficult!) Anyhow, back to the story at hand...I had bought 3 dolls at Second Chance Antiques. One of which I am planning on leaving as is, and two that I was planning to dismember at home for their heads. As I was packing, I began to realize that I wouldn't have much extra room -if any at all - and that it would be ever so helpful if my doll heads were removed from the doll, so that I could discard the rest of the body. So, I take out my trusty sissors to preform surgery. Only to find that Charlotte took one quick look and decided that it would be the perfect opportunity go visit our neighbors Pam Garrison and Kelly (jewelry maker extraordinary - more about her in another post). Doll_head_3 It just reinforced that lots of people find my doll head obsession slightly 'off', LOL! However, I am proud to say that there are more like me. Teresa noticed the cutest little 'bug' in the parking lot of our hotel and Charlotte just emailed me the photo today...see, I'm not alone!!

Collages looking for a home...

You may have already seen posts from some of the Silver Bella participants about the Vendor Faire on Friday night. It was absolutely magical. I wish that I might have had more time to visit the booths of the other artisans. I did get a little peek, but could have spent hours looking through everyone's wares.  I sold most of my collages and only have three left that are looking for homes. I've posted photos of them below. (click on photo to see a larger view) If you're interested, please email me and we'll talk. (prices are listed, you will need to add $5 for shipping). I will also be selling class kits, but they are currently being shipped from Omaha, so I'll post once I have them in my hands and ready to go.

A very Bella Thank You

SbiconthumbI'm back home from one of my favorite teaching and growing experience of the year. Silver Bella. You may have read posts already from my fellow instructors (Kim, Pam, Rebecca, Charlotte, Jenifer, Aaron & Jenny, and Sassy.) Not to mention the Queen Bella Herself, Teresa McFayden. My wrap up is a day late as we had a huge windstorm here in Vancouver and I was without power for 36 hours. In a way, I was actually secretly happy about the outage, as it gave me the perfect excuse to relax (and take a heavenly nap) Monday afternoon. But back to the important stuff. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank some wonderful people to whom I owe a huge debt of thanks.

First, I want to take a moment to thank Teresa. If you are a regular reader of Teresa's blog, you know that she is witty, clever and creative. You night also glean from her Paper Bella business and Silver Bella art event that she is a mini mogul in her own right. What you might not know from reading her blog is how much she is loved and appreciated by her friends (as Teresa is never one to toot her own horn!). As someone who feels incredibly honored to play a small part in her Bella events, I am always amazed at how gracious and competent she is. I know, without a doubt that Silver Bella is a colossal amount of work. There have been months and months of preparation, planning, conundrums, challenges and even a few tears (not to mention the rooms of her house that had been relegated to storage areas as almost 100 boxes from teachers and vendors needed to be stored before the event!). However, none of that was visible as the weekend got under way. From all outward appearances, it was the easiest thing she's ever done. And that, my friends, takes talent. To have something, so intricate look so effortless, Teresa, my hat's off to you. Thank you for letting me be a part of it. (smooch!)

To my fellow Prima Bellas. I know that when I was explaining this event to one of the 'new' teachers, I shared that the reason I loved this event so much was the tight bond that the teachers build/have together. It is rare in this industry to have such a strong bond between teachers. I can truthfully say, that my life would be much lonelier without the friendships that I have with the other Bellas. Although I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked with a few of you, I was pleased to see that overall the camaraderie that bonded the team together so well last year, was still there again this year.

To all the students, I don't know what else to say, that to simply say Thank you. Thank You from the bottom of my heart. There is something SO special about a Silver Bella student. You are kind, creative and gracious. You play well with others (it made my heart happy to see so many of you sharing supplies and vintage this-and-that with your neighbors!), you share a love of pretty and glittery things,  you are CREATIVE (yes, capital letters creative. You seriously continually blew me away with your awesome twists on class projects) and you were kind and lovely with your sweet gifts and feedback. I hope that the Silver Bella weekend was everything you hoped for (and more!). To Heather, a huge pat on the back and 'well done' for all the work you put into organizing an amazing Yahoo group for the Silver Bella students. It enhanced the event so much to have all the swaps, chit-chat and helpful hints that the board offered.

There are oodles of others who played parts, large and small with the success of Silver Bella. Thank you to each of you. If you took either of my classes and want to offer any feedback, or have any questions, I would welcome your email. (there is an email me link just below my photo at the top left of this page.)

In closing, I'll leave you with one of my collages that I sold at Silver Bella. It's titled 'Friends' and the caption says: 'They shared secrets, laughed and drank mint juleps'. Those are the kinds of friends I made this weekend. I trust it's the same for you!
