Time to spill the beans

You know when you've got something planned which you are just over the moon excited about, but you can't share the details until everything is set and good-to-go?  That's been me for the past few months. I have been working very hard with some fabulous hosts to bring scrapbooking workshops to a country that has never before brought in an international teacher for an event.  I am beyond honored that I was invited, and am so, so , so excited to visit with the organizers and students in November.  Where will I be you ask?

I am beyond excited to get there and meet each student. Scrapbooking is gaining popularity in Russia, and I am excited to be a part of that growth! A special thank you to my hosts, ScrapClub and ScrapLady!

Thanks so much for sharing my news. I never would have believed it had you told me way back when I started scrapbooking in 1997, that not only would I be honored to be employed by a wonderful scrapbooking company, but that I would also travel the world facilitating workshops and sharing my passion for the hobby. I am so appreciative and thankful.

gone, gone, gone, she's been gone so long...

Hi Friends, Sorry for the unexpected break in blogging. Things have been a little crazy around here. Our diabetic dog is continuing to do poorly and has necessitated the cancellation of a weekend getaway, and a few all-nighters to monitor her blood glucose levels. *sigh* It's looking like she is no longer going to be stable and will need constant monitoring and daily adjustments in her insulin dosages.  But we're dealing and it's looking like we've sort of figured out how to deal with her for the immediate future.

 

Late last week I received an encouraging and sweet note from Carole who attended my workshop at the Paper & Co. Show last October in Versailles, France.  She very kindly showed me her finished version of the mini album I taught in one of the classes. Here is her version of the book, and after realizing that I never actually shared the album here, here is a look at my version of the cover:

Work wise, I'm so excited, Melissa and I have been designing like crazy and are really happy with what we are planning to release at CHA Winter in January. As I mentioned earlier, I am also really excited about an upcoming teaching trip. Just waiting to get a few more details so that I can release all the info at once. But those of you in Europe, sit tight, I'll be coming to see you in November!

THIS has got to be one of the most amazing house makeovers I've seen in a long while. I could happily move into Jennifer's home and not change one single, solitary thing :) But be prepared...once you check out the magic she's worked with paint, elbow grease, and creativity, you'll be itching to tackle a few projects of your own!

I stumbled upon this cooking/recipe blog when I did a google search for a Sweet potato fry receipe. They hfeature great photography of their dishes, good instructions, and I've visited it several times since my original visit. YUMMY!

Brooke Giannetti's blog Velvet & Linen has also quickly become one of my favorite home decor blogs. Her perfect mixture of Swedish design, vintage touches and opulent textures has made her one of my favorite designer/decorators. I wonder what kind of magic she could conjure up in my house :) As an added plus, Brooke often provides links to other noteworthy home decor blogs.

Baby Boy

I had the pleasure of creating a project for the Melissa Frances blog this week, and it went up yesterday over there. Here is a brief copy of the text:

I don't know about you, but there is something about a baby card which makes me so very happy. I've been in a bit of a baby card making frenzy lately and enjoying every minute of it!

To make this card I reached for my Melissa France "Stamp Buddies" acrylic stamp set. This set is probably one of my all time favorite stamps created by Melissa. If your local scrapbook or stamping store doesn't carry it, a simple google search will turn up several retailers who have it in stock.  

Step-by-step directions:

1. Cover greeting card front with Alma (PA197) and Lilly (PA186) patterned papers.
2. Distress edges of card by running fingernail around each side to rough-up the papers.
3. Wrap cream grosgrain ribbon around card front and tie in a bow.
4. Using watercolor pencils, color elephant image which has been stamped onto white cardstock. 
5.  Glue elephant rectangle to card front. Then using light brown thread, sew around edge of rectangle. 
6. Distress edges of rectangle by running fingernail around each side of it. 
7. Apply 'it's a boy' rub-on from 'Congratulations' (FW017) Rub-on set to a small tag. 
8. Tie embroidery floss through a button, then glue button to right side of small tag. 
9. Using pop-dots, glue tag to right side of card, beside elephant image.

As a side note, are any of you watching So You Think You Can Dance this season? The season premier was last night and they had some great dancers. Love this show, and are excited that it is finally going to be on the fall TV schedule.

Do you remember when walnut inking your scrapbooking supplies was all the rage?  I guess I'm dating myself in this hobby, LOL! As I was cleaning out my scrapbook room, I found a large stash of these tags that I guess I figured I'd use someday. Well that someday was last night as I broke one out for this slightly more masculine card. I also busted out of my normal color pallet for a bit of fall flavor. If your hometown is anything like mine, September has seen the return of the rainy, cool weather that signifies the beginning of fall on the west coast of British Columbia. Yes indeed, Summer seems to be officially over. If this weather continues, I think I'll be bustin' out the hot apple cider, homemade soups and cardigans before too long.

EDITED TO ADD: Just learned about a great giveaway.
