This layout is one I enjoyed putting together a few months ago after finding the photos at my parent's house. I scrapbooked many of our dating memories back when I first started the hobby, so it was a pleasure to find these pics and to scrapbook them in the style I scrapbook today.  Layout is published in the Canadian Scrapbooker Basics Special Issue Vol. 4, which has just been released.

Jumieges, France

For the summer issue of the Canadian Scrapbooker, I wrote an article about scrapbooking vacation photos and this is one of the layouts from that feature. I honestly feel that sometimes we concentrate so much on adding stuff (embellishments) to layouts, that it can hinder the telling of a story. I had a lot to share about our visit to Jumieges Abbey, so the execution of the layout it more basic, with just a few special details.

As a side note, I first found out about the Abbey through a photo in the "Top 10 Normandy"  guidebook. After a bit of research, we decided that the Abbey was on our must-see list, and were able to plan a visit into our itinerary. Everyone thought it was an awesome and highly recommended place to visit. My dad and I (who are both into photography) really enjoyed taking artsy photos at the site. We stayed at a bed and breakfast about 3 minutes from the Abbey and virtually had it to ourselves in the morning. This layout only features a small portion of our images, but it gives a nice overview.

I was very excited to receive the Summer issue of the Canadian Scrapbooker magazine in the mail on Wednesday. I authored a travel article for the issue, and there was nothing like a deadline to 'encourage' me to finally get cracking on scrapbooking the photos from our holiday last fall.'Our Adventure Begins' is a layout chronicling the first out-and-about day of our vacation in France. It's also the first time that a photo from the fish eye lens I bought before our trip has been used in my scrapbook :)

I've been spending time Wednesdayand Thursday to try and decide on a holiday destination for Rick and I this year. We are very tempted to head to Buenos Aires. The airline I fly with has a reduced mileage promotion on right now, so Rick and I could fly for free. We're really not sure whether we should go for it or not. Deadline to book with the promotion is Sunday. I worry that if I don't use my miles soon, the airlines may change the policies or cancel them as they battle economic difficulties. However, there are a lot of things that we'd like to do around the house here (all of which cost money), so a lower cost holiday may be more desirable...lots to mull over, eh? If any of you have ever traveled to Buenos Aires and are willing to offer feedback, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the city/surrounding areas.

Ten Years

I finally sat down to scrapbook the photos that the talented Joanna Bolick took of Rick and I in Sept 2007. She is such a gifted photographer who made Rick and I feel so comfortable as she shot. These were my 2 favorites from the session and I used them for my 10th anniversary page.

Sibling Love

This layout is especially close to my heart. It’s my sweet Grandma and her brother circa 1920. The photo absolutely melts my heart, it’s so stinkin’ cute!

 

Although it’s hard to tell (sorry the photo of the layout is a tad grainy) the aqua paper has been embossed with the Cuttlebug. Jeepers, talk about an addictive tool J It’s certainly a new favorite; I’ve had to restrain myself from embossing everything in sight!

This photo simply melts my heart. It’s my grandma, and her brother in 1920. Grandma was approximately 2 years old in this photo. Although I never knew my Great-Uncle Claire (he died when I was a baby), I have heard many stories about what good friends he and grandma were. A part of me wonders if living with their father (who I have been told was quite cruel) created a bond that helped them form the deep relationship that lasted their entire lives. Their respective spouses got on well, and so the two families spent a lot of time together. What a great history and challenge to me to work on building and growing the relationship I have with my own brother.

Sweet Baby

Travel

Travel. There's something about it that I love. Something about seeing new cultures, new sights, walking in a land that is so different from my own. Learning. About people, about history, about myself.  Yes indeed, I've been bitten by the travel bug and bitten hard.

One of the reasons I've been swamped over the past few weeks is that in addition to my work, I've been trying to coordinate a holiday in France for Rick and I and my parents (whom we invited to join us). We joke a ton that my parents love my husband more than they love me (it is a joke - but they do love him to bits). So for us, this combined trip will be a great thing. We are primarily doing it on our own. We'll have almost 2 weeks and will be traveling in Normandy, the Loire Valley and Paris. We'll be staying at many different kinds of lodging; 2 bed and breakfasts, one gite (a cottage rental) and one apartment. We'll also be driving ourselves around. I'm sure we'll have lots of mishaps, but hey, that's how memories are made, right?

At any rate, we have a little over a week now until we are gone and we still have a ton to do, but itinerary wise and as far as being confirmed with all our reservations, I think that finally everything is in order. Yeay!

I thought I'd show you a layout I completed for the summer issue of Canadian Scrapbooker magazine. It talks about my London work trip last year.

My mama

She loves me even when I'm stupid. Believes in me when I don't believe in myself and comforts me when I'm feeling low. I can do one hundred layouts about her and never capture how much she means to me. (layout published in the Canadian Scrapbooker Summer 08 issue)

This weekend I was putting the finishing touches on my projects for the Paper and Co. Show in France this fall. I'm SO excited about these classes and can't wait to present them for the first time at this amazing international event.

Brand new

I don't know about you, but frequently after I finish a project or layout it becomes my new 'favorite'. However, ever since I finished this layout (which was featured in the Canadian Scrapbooker Summer issue) it's remained my favorite. I love the colors, the products, the baby...and (gasp) I think I may just be getting this photography thing as these are from the newborn photo shoot I did for my newest nephew. I hope you enjoy!

Today I've got to get to some work, before heading to the post office to mail a few packets. If I'm lucky some items I've won off ebay auctions will be there for me to pick up...Here's hoping they look as good in real life as they did on screen.
