Have you heard???

Silver_bella_registration

It's here, it's here. It's time to talk Silver Bella again!! As always, Teresa has done an amazing job organizing what is sure to be a fabulous, artsy, inspiring weekend. In addition to my sweet friends Teresa, Kim, Pam, Rebecca and Charlotte, I'm delighted with the fabulous new teachers who will join the roster this year, my friends Jenni and Sally. Please stay tuned to the Silver Bella blog (link is above) for more details, but in the meantime, make sure that you're available the evening of June 30th for registration as the event usually sells out rather quickly. Yippee, I can hardly wait!

I wanted to leave you with a 'pretty'. Some great vintage finds. Barkcloth, vintage button cards, flower frogs, and a new (fake) birds nest...

Paper_co_and_show So thrilled to share that I will be traveling to PARIS in October for the Paper Co. and Show!!! I'm so very excited. Another opportunity to practice my French and immerse myself in French culture and architecture. I'm also excited about sharing my passion for scrapbooking and mixed media with European students. So if you're looking for somthing fun to do October 10-12, maybe a trip to Paris would be perfect?!

I'll be joined by some of my amazingly talented friends like Rebecca and  Kah-Mei - what a treat! Thank you Paper Co. and Show for the invitation, I'm counting down the days!

Melrose, part II

Did I tell you yet how much fun I had last weekend? Oh, I did? Well, it bears repeating. I simply had too much fun with Diane, Wendy and the Melrose students. Our project was more on the mixed media side than straight scrapbooking and it was a blast. For many, it was the first time they'd played with gesso and artist acrylic paints. I was so proud of everyone's projects and loved how each one looked unique. What a treat.

Here are more photos of the store and the class while in progress! (sorry that the color is a bit off on the class shots)

In addition to class time I had the privilege to do some antiquing with Wendy and Diane (we all found great treasures! I'll get the photos of my finds up on the blog in my next post) and we had a rip-roaring dinner with Kim on Friday night.

Thanks again to each of the students and Wendy and Diane!

Melrose Vintage

Melrose_class_2

I am beyond thrilled to announce that I will be celebrating National Scrapbooking Day with a class at MELROSE VINTAGE in Phoenix, AZ Phone: (602) 636-0300 on May 3rd.  Diane the lovely owner of Melrose Vintage and I have talked for three years about having me come do a class. Three years people!! The stars have finally aligned and we've done it. My ticket's booked, the sample's made and we're set to go. All that's needed is some of you delightful people to come spend the evening with us.

If you've never been to Melrose Vintage you're in for a treat. I can honestly say that I have never been in a store like it before. It's inspiration on hyper drive. Imagine the home you'd like to have, full of Shabby Chic furniture, beautiful crystal chandeliers and vignettes that inspire you to accessorize and style your own home. But wait, then you round a corner and behold, a carefully selected assortment of scrapbooking products is also available. Specializing in shabby chic and vintage products, Melrose Vintage's scrapbooking department is a hidden jewel for those who adore romantic, vintage style.  Can you tell that I love this store?!! I'm sure you'll find it as wonderful as I do.

I invite you to join me on Saturday May 3rd from 6:30 - 9:30PM. We will have the store to ourselves and Diane will host us in perfect style. Our class? Designed specifically for those who love vintage shabby, the 'Glittery Memory Board' class is a delight. We'll be working with gesso, acrylic paint, scrapbooking papers, a charcoal pencil, luscious ribbons, German glass glitter, vintage ledger and book pages, a set of classic brocade acrylic stamps and crepe paper. You will learn background collage techniques in addition to 2 different ways to create those popular rosettes that are used frequently in shabby chic projects. Each student will have the choice between completing the project in two different color schemes; soft and pastel, or bold and vintage. Your finished project will be a home decor piece that will look beautiful hung on a wall or door. For those of you who are local, Diane has the class sample in the store if you'd like to check it out!

To register please call Melrose Vintage at (602) 636.0300. Class cost is $65

I can't tell you how excited I am about this. Let me know if you're coming...I can't wait to see you!

To close out the week in grand style, here is a wee giveaway from me to one of you! Leave a comment to be entered in a draw for these two rubber stamps. As I will pay for shipping, giveaway is open to those in Canada or the USA (thanks for your understanding). Giveaway will be open until 10AM on Tuesday morning. (April 22) Good Luck!

Where have I been?

Good question! I've been here, working hard on product and class designs. Sorry for letting the blog suffer for the past week and a half. I'll try to get back on the bandwagon now.

I have some exciting news about an upcoming class to share with you. Thrilled to announce that I will be at Right at Home Scrapbooking outside of Boston on Saturday, March 29th teaching a cute mini album project. Their phone number is (508) 695-9290. I hope to see some of you there!

I'll leave you with a little peek at my inspiration board, I just changed it up the other night. Now, back to work for me :-)

A very Bella Thank You

SbiconthumbI'm back home from one of my favorite teaching and growing experience of the year. Silver Bella. You may have read posts already from my fellow instructors (Kim, Pam, Rebecca, Charlotte, Jenifer, Aaron & Jenny, and Sassy.) Not to mention the Queen Bella Herself, Teresa McFayden. My wrap up is a day late as we had a huge windstorm here in Vancouver and I was without power for 36 hours. In a way, I was actually secretly happy about the outage, as it gave me the perfect excuse to relax (and take a heavenly nap) Monday afternoon. But back to the important stuff. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank some wonderful people to whom I owe a huge debt of thanks.

First, I want to take a moment to thank Teresa. If you are a regular reader of Teresa's blog, you know that she is witty, clever and creative. You night also glean from her Paper Bella business and Silver Bella art event that she is a mini mogul in her own right. What you might not know from reading her blog is how much she is loved and appreciated by her friends (as Teresa is never one to toot her own horn!). As someone who feels incredibly honored to play a small part in her Bella events, I am always amazed at how gracious and competent she is. I know, without a doubt that Silver Bella is a colossal amount of work. There have been months and months of preparation, planning, conundrums, challenges and even a few tears (not to mention the rooms of her house that had been relegated to storage areas as almost 100 boxes from teachers and vendors needed to be stored before the event!). However, none of that was visible as the weekend got under way. From all outward appearances, it was the easiest thing she's ever done. And that, my friends, takes talent. To have something, so intricate look so effortless, Teresa, my hat's off to you. Thank you for letting me be a part of it. (smooch!)

To my fellow Prima Bellas. I know that when I was explaining this event to one of the 'new' teachers, I shared that the reason I loved this event so much was the tight bond that the teachers build/have together. It is rare in this industry to have such a strong bond between teachers. I can truthfully say, that my life would be much lonelier without the friendships that I have with the other Bellas. Although I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked with a few of you, I was pleased to see that overall the camaraderie that bonded the team together so well last year, was still there again this year.

To all the students, I don't know what else to say, that to simply say Thank you. Thank You from the bottom of my heart. There is something SO special about a Silver Bella student. You are kind, creative and gracious. You play well with others (it made my heart happy to see so many of you sharing supplies and vintage this-and-that with your neighbors!), you share a love of pretty and glittery things,  you are CREATIVE (yes, capital letters creative. You seriously continually blew me away with your awesome twists on class projects) and you were kind and lovely with your sweet gifts and feedback. I hope that the Silver Bella weekend was everything you hoped for (and more!). To Heather, a huge pat on the back and 'well done' for all the work you put into organizing an amazing Yahoo group for the Silver Bella students. It enhanced the event so much to have all the swaps, chit-chat and helpful hints that the board offered.

There are oodles of others who played parts, large and small with the success of Silver Bella. Thank you to each of you. If you took either of my classes and want to offer any feedback, or have any questions, I would welcome your email. (there is an email me link just below my photo at the top left of this page.)

In closing, I'll leave you with one of my collages that I sold at Silver Bella. It's titled 'Friends' and the caption says: 'They shared secrets, laughed and drank mint juleps'. Those are the kinds of friends I made this weekend. I trust it's the same for you!

Gettin' ready...

I don't know about you, but my excitement revel is gettin' higher and higher each day. Silver Bella is one of the highlights of my year, and to think, it's just around the corner. I'm trying to finish up lots of 'stuff' around the studio as I leave on Friday for head office and just have a few days in between coming home from there and leaving for Silver Bella, so I'm trying to get all my artwork done. I'm seriously having SO much fun. It's been eons since I've sat down for several days in a row to do mixed media art. It's been a welcome break.

Here is a little sneak peek at several of the collages I will be bringing with me to the show. Feel free to let me know if you're hoping to see anything in a specific color pallet. I can always try to pull something together before the show. I'll be showing more peeks in the coming days, I hope you enjoy!Silver_bella_collage_peeks

My soul

Pink_thankyou_card_with_butterfly_2has been so happy the past few days. After coming home from CHA I got the creative bug really bad and I felt like I just had to create. For the past many months just about everything I have been creating has had a purpose. Projects were for Melissa Frances, The Canadian Scrapbooker, classes, etc...the list goes on and on. While I'm by no means complaining (I know that I am very lucky to do what I love as my job) every once in a while you feel the pressure and want to do something for fun. Something to rejuvenate the soul and set your spirit free. Something with no stings attached.

I was very lucky at CHA to be given some fun goodies from friends in the industry that had my fingers itching to play. Finally, this Sunday and Monday I went to town. I used stamps that I've had for much too long without using them, I discovered that some of my ink-pads are dry (obviously too long since I've used them as I didn't even notice that they were getting dry!), and I fell in love with some of Daisy D's new cardstock tags. Yummy! Over the next few days I'll be sharing a few of my projects. Here's the first one. This card uses 2 great Hero Arts Stamps (the 2 larger blocks), an Anna Griffin thank you stamp and an ultra cute butterfly by Inkadinkado. The card is by Savvy Stamps and the little 'No' block is one of the afore mentioned Daisy D's cardstock tags.

In other news, exciting news on the Silver Bella front. A man I have long been a fan of, Chris Brown of Urban Prairie fame is slated to be a special guest at the event. I can hardly wait!!!
