I had the distinct honor of being featured in the most recent issue of  Scrap-Info, a Russian scrapbooking magazine.  Even though the issue is only the second one they have published, it is really strong. Lots of photos, great color, and tons of step-outs. It was a thrill to see my artwork presented to the Russian audience and I really enjoyed working with the author who was assigned my feature.  It was a real trip to see my article written in Russian and not understand a single part of it :) A very special thank you to the gals who publish Scrap-Info, I am so appreciative!

Layout features me as a wee bebe. My dad is such a great photographer and I love the tenderness he captured in my mother's hands as she dressed me to leave the hospital.

A layout and some links

This layout is one I enjoyed putting together a few months ago after finding the photos at my parent's house. I scrapbooked many of our dating memories back when I first started the hobby, so it was a pleasure to find these pics and to scrapbook them in the style I scrapbook today.  Layout is published in the Canadian Scrapbooker Basics Special Issue Vol. 4, which has just been released.

Jumieges, France

For the summer issue of the Canadian Scrapbooker, I wrote an article about scrapbooking vacation photos and this is one of the layouts from that feature. I honestly feel that sometimes we concentrate so much on adding stuff (embellishments) to layouts, that it can hinder the telling of a story. I had a lot to share about our visit to Jumieges Abbey, so the execution of the layout it more basic, with just a few special details.

As a side note, I first found out about the Abbey through a photo in the "Top 10 Normandy"  guidebook. After a bit of research, we decided that the Abbey was on our must-see list, and were able to plan a visit into our itinerary. Everyone thought it was an awesome and highly recommended place to visit. My dad and I (who are both into photography) really enjoyed taking artsy photos at the site. We stayed at a bed and breakfast about 3 minutes from the Abbey and virtually had it to ourselves in the morning. This layout only features a small portion of our images, but it gives a nice overview.

Yesterday I had some fun new products to play around with, so I decided to make this layout. It took me a surprisingly short amount of time. It was one of those that I could 'see' in my head before I started making it. Love it when that happens! The photo is one of the few we have of my mom and dad from while they were dating. 

First, I scanned an old photo and enlarged it. Then I asked my mom and dad to help me out with the journalling. I asked them to write something about what they loved about each other while dating, or something along those lines. This morning I opened my email to discover what they'd written - I loved it! I was very excited to receive the Summer issue of the Canadian Scrapbooker magazine in the mail on Wednesday. I authored a travel article for the issue, and there was nothing like a deadline to 'encourage' me to finally get cracking on scrapbooking the photos from our holiday last fall.'Our Adventure Begins' is a layout chronicling the first out-and-about day of our vacation in France. It's also the first time that a photo from the fish eye lens I bought before our trip has been used in my scrapbook :)

I've been spending time Wednesdayand Thursday to try and decide on a holiday destination for Rick and I this year. We are very tempted to head to Buenos Aires. The airline I fly with has a reduced mileage promotion on right now, so Rick and I could fly for free. We're really not sure whether we should go for it or not. Deadline to book with the promotion is Sunday. I worry that if I don't use my miles soon, the airlines may change the policies or cancel them as they battle economic difficulties. However, there are a lot of things that we'd like to do around the house here (all of which cost money), so a lower cost holiday may be more desirable...lots to mull over, eh? If any of you have ever traveled to Buenos Aires and are willing to offer feedback, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the city/surrounding areas.

Happy Tuesday! I'm recovering from a knock-me-flat case of the chills, sweats, lethargy and fever that I was hit with late Saturday night. I had the pleasure to teach all day at one of my local scrapbook stores annual Spectacular event which hosts 225 women all getting together to scrapbook and take classes. It was a delight. It was my third year of teaching Melissa Frances classes at this event, so it's been really fun to see familiar faces each time. I arrived home at 9:30 PM and that's when the sickness began...I had goosebumps, then fever, then goosebumps, etc. So the rest of the weekend consisted of me trying to sleep the 'bug' out of my system. I'm doing much better today, and am hoping that the trend continues as Rick has planned something exciting for this coming weekend. I'm crossing my fingers that I'll be up for it!

In the meantime, I've been spending a lot of my recoverytime on the couch, looking at my house and planning upcoming DIY projects. Does spring get you in the home improvement mindset too???

During my blog break I visited San Fransisco and Boston, met some lovely store owners, did some spring cleaning, and purchased a Silhouette to add to my scrapbooking tools. One of my local stores has the original Silhouette on sale for $129 as the manufacturer is coming out with an updated machine with a few more bells and whistles. In my opinion those extra features aren't enough to offset the  difference in price, so I have decided to go with the older version. I have been very pleased and look forward to getting more comfortable with the tool.  If anyone is looking for one, I would be happy to pass on the contact info for the store as I'm sure that they'd ship to you.

Over the past few weeks I have been enjoying scrapbooking photos from our vacation in France last fall. The layout above commemorates the church that was right behind our gite and our interaction with the local mayor. I have worked on a number of other layouts from the trip which will have to be kept under wraps right now as they are for an upcoming article.

For this layout I used pretty much exclusively Stampin' Up! products, with the exception of vintage ledger paper, seam binding, thread and afore mentioned Silhouette machine.

Does anyone have any special plans this Easter weekend? I'm sure our plans will include family time and church celebrations.

Ten Years

I finally sat down to scrapbook the photos that the talented Joanna Bolick took of Rick and I in Sept 2007. She is such a gifted photographer who made Rick and I feel so comfortable as she shot. These were my 2 favorites from the session and I used them for my 10th anniversary page.

Rome

I had the pleasure of being invited to participate in the Birthday celebration for Emma's Paperie last weekend. I was very warmly welcomed by Cindy, the delightful owner of the site, who sent me the most amazing hand cream along with a lovely selection of shabby-styled products to design with. It was my pleasure to share a layout along with a card as a part of her all-day-long blog party. Today I thought I'd share the layout with you.

This layout is the first one I've done for the holiday hubby and I took in 2007 (gulp), I guess I'd better get onto creating an album, eh?

One of the things I love about the Internet is how small it makes our creative world and how easily and accessible it makes searching for inspiration. I treated myself to a creative day yesterday. I created this layout as well as whipped up a few passport holders (which I'll share later this week) I thought in creating this layout that I'd talk about why I appreciate the internet and take a few of my favorite flickr photos from one of the photo collages I made. *Update on my dog: So Dixie went to the vet today to be boarded for a few days while they try to regulate her blood glucose levels. Poor baby was really sick. When I took her in last Tuesday she weighed 12.3 lbs. which was already down from her normal weight. When I took her in this morning, she weighed 11.15 lbs. That's a big loss in only 6 days! I so appreciated those who shared their experiences with diabetic dogs, and for the well-wishes. Hopefully our pup is now on the path to getting better.*
