“La Dolce Vita” is a comfortable, relaxed, welcoming retreat that celebrates creative living. With a focus on culinary explorations, creativity and antiques, this women’s only gathering will give each attendee the opportunity to participate and learn in a supportive, encouraging environment.
When translated, “La Dolce Vita” means “the sweet life” and throughout our week together, we will indeed be enjoying a sweet time in Italy! Carolyn has planned an intimate, laid back retreat, where each guest feels like they are visiting the estate of an old family friend as they explore the Italian countryside.
For the 2017 "La Dolce Vita" cycle Carolyn is pleased to be offering a "Where Women Cook™" & "Where Women Create™" edition of the retreat with brand founder and publisher Jo Packham as her special guest. With special activities planned that reflect the creativity celebrated in the pages of the magazines, attendees are sure to be in for a treat!
“La Dolce Vita” is not a fashion show (so don’t pack your most posh clothes), nor a 5 star experience with room service, maid service and daily towel changes. Attendees should be comfortable with the idea that there are no room attendants to make the beds each morning, and that the shared kitchens and bathrooms will only be as clean as you keep them.
A visit to Italy can be a life affirming, wonderful experience, but only for those who go into it with an open mind and positive outlook. Things will not be the same as in North America...but that’s the point, right? The coffee will not taste the same, the beds are typically a little firmer, the prices for most goods will be higher than in North America, and the wifi sometimes goes down - sometimes for a few hours, sometimes for a day or two! But the flip side of that is: that there is a vibrant, celebrated food culture which is lauded the world over; the Italian attitude towards living a fulfilled life is inspiring; and the sense of history you get wandering through streets and buildings that are centuries old is something that simply can’t be found in North America.
During your time at “La Dolce Vita” you will have the opportunity to experience real Italian country life. Our host estate, Bichi Borhesi, is a working family farm/winery/wedding facility in the countryside. That means that you may find the odd bug in the apartments, and you might hear birds or dogs from time to time. You may even be there while a wedding is taking place on the grounds! But staying at Bichi Borghesi also means that we will be surrounded with spectacular views, eat amazingly fresh vegetables and meats and have a bird’s eye view of how one family keeps their connection to the land that has been a part of their family history for centuries.
While we have activities planned each day, there has been a concentrated effort to balance guided activities with free time to allow each attendee to truly live in the moment and experience Tuscany at their own pace. If for any reason you wish to skip any of the activities, that is your prerogative. Our goal is that you have the time of your life, so please feel welcome to participate as much, or as little, as you want.
