Remember I said previously that I felt in a spring cleaning mood...well I was a vacuum packin', clutter busting one woman cleaning crew yesterday. Into their boxes went all the winter decorations (snowmen and evergreens) and out came the spring finery. Then I went onto tackling my two storage rooms (which aren't supposed to be storage rooms, lol!). We're not quite done, but it's underway.
Back in the day, before I worked for Melissa Frances, I used to love spending (usually) one day a week as an escape day. I'd go across the border and do my version of hunting & gathering - antiquing and junking! I'd poke around in flea markets, antique stores and second hand stores attempting to find that diamond in the rough. Nowadays, my trips to the states are usually much more structured. I have a list of stores I want to go to and I don't spend as much time rummaging for treasures. However today, in spite of a list of projects a mile long, I decided to take about 3 hours poking around some of my favorite antique stores in Lynden, WA. It was a much needed break. I just love old things. I love the fact that I hold something that someone used to value many, many years ago. Happily, I found a few treasures which made their way home with me. Some vintage photos (you can never have too many of those!), buttons, fabric, old bottles, a pin cushion, millinery flowers, school book. Ah yes, it was a happy antiquing day. Unfortunately the sun had gone down sufficiently by the time I got home that I wasn't able to take any photos, but I'll post my goodies once I get a nice picture of them.
In other news, so so proud of my friend Holly. The nature of my job is that I often have to scrapbook photos for trade shows, catalog work, etc and with no children of my own, I frequently 'borrow' photos and stories from Holly for work assignments. If you've poked around her blog at all, you'll know she used to own a photography business (she has since closed her company as she is expecting her fourth child and she wanted to spend more time with her family and less working). At any rate, suffice it to say, she is a fabulous photographer. Last year, I convinced Holly that we should submit a photo of hers to the Canadian Scrapbooker for their cover. It was accepted and this week I finally received my copy of the issue in the mail. It has so great to see the fabulous photo Savannah looking at me from the cover. I was one of those who participated in the challenge to scrap the cover layout. It was one of those things where I *knew* as soon as I photographed the layout that it wouldn't get picked. Why? Because the shades of color on the layout are soo light and very difficult to photograph without washing it out. I was disappointed, 'cause personally I love the design..but c'est la vie! Here, with some of my Easter seasonal glory, is my layout with Holly's photo:
