Happy hoppin', let's kick this thing off! First, let's take a look at the awesome new products in this release. There are 3 new stamp sets, and 6 new designer die sets. You can check out the entire collection at the Ellen Hutson store by clicking here.
For my first project, I designed a card featuring the Autumn Acorns Stamp Set + the NEW Autumn Acorns Dies.
For my first project, I designed a card featuring the Autumn Acorns Stamp Set + the NEW Autumn Acorns Dies.
This card was fun to put together. Here are the steps:
- Cut a piece of watercolor paper 5.5" x 4.25".
- Using watercolor paints, paint an autumnal colored background onto your card front, leaving a border. Allow to dry.
- Cut a 3" x 6" piece of watercolor paper. (Or any watercolor scraps you have in your studio.)
- Color the leaf stamp from the Autumn Acorns set with Distress markers (I used the following colors: Rusty Hinge, Fired Brick, Forest Moss, Walnut Stain, Crushed Olive, Ripe Persimmon, Brushed Corduroy. I only used 3-4 colors to color each leaf, so rotated which markers I used each time I stamped. If you had only a handful of these colors, you could use what you have and your finished assortment of leaves will look just fine. They would simply not be quite as colorful as this sample.)
- Spritz the colored stamp with a light mist of water
- Stamp it onto watercolor cardstock
- Use the Autumn Acorns die to cut it out. (Repeat steps 3-6 eight times to make 8 leaves.)
- Using repositional adhesive, place the leaves in a circle to make your wreath. Lightly fold the sides of your leaves up before placing them down. This will help your wreath look more 3 dimensional.
- Using your sewing machine, sew a straight stitch around the wreath. I went around the circle two times.
- Cut a piece of Solar White cardstock 5.5" x 8.5" and fold it in half to make an A2 card base.
- Glue the card front with the wreath on it onto the front of your A2 card. By doing this, you will be able to hide the backside of your card front (which has the sewing on it) from the card receiver.
- Using a corner rounder, round all four corners of your card.
- Using Brushed Corduroy, distress all four sides of your card.
- Stamp the "Thank you" greeting onto white cardstock using Brushed Corduroy Distress ink. Cut to size and distress the edges with Brushed Corduroy Distress ink.
- Using pop dots, or other dimensional adhesive, stick greeting to the lower center of the card as pictured.
After an Autumn themed card, it was fun to move onto a Christmas card! I love this new Santa’s Flight stamp set. It will work for everything from cards & pocket scrapbooking to layouts!
This card is almost like a mini quilt with 5 different panels. Here's a walk through the design process:
- First, to create the top right panel, you will want to click on over to THIS blog post where I explain the steps for making this beautiful poinsettia paper.
- The panel on the top left, and the bottom right and left are all patterned papers from the Evergreen Paper Pack from Basic Grey.
- Using the "Santa please stop here" stamp from the new "Santa's Flight" stamp set, stamp it on Neenah Solar White cardstock with Tuxedo Black Memento ink. Cut the saying out leaving a slight white border around the bubble.
- Cut a piece of white cardstock 4.5" wide by 2" high. Stamp the silhouette Santa and his reindeer with Ranger Emboss It! clear ink. Sprinkle Ranger Gold Embossing Powder on top of the embossing ink and heat emboss it.
- Cut a border of kraft paper and trim the long side of it with your favorite border die or punch. I used the "My Favorite Things" Blueprints 23 set.
- Now it's time to assemble things. My card is 5" high x 4.25" wide., begin by gluing the Santa embossed image onto the card, then build/layer the other patterns off of it.
- To finish, rub the 'no 25' rub ons from the Tim Holtz Numbers Remnant Rubs onto the bottom right panel, and Stamp the "inspected and certified" stamp from the "Santa's Flight" stamp set, using the same Tuxedo Black ink that is linked above.
- Sew a straight stitch onto the card as seen on the sample.
